It’s possible to run a dorm vs dorm competition without any money, but some money definitely makes it easier. Environmental Alliance has been fairly successful at raising money for great prizes, advertising and other items. Here’s how they’ve done it:

At Duke University, the “Eco-Olympics” is a dorm vs. dorm sustainability competition that includes a suite of events promoting recycling, energy and water conservation, environmental education and other sustainable practices. Many schools run similar competitions under names such as the “Green Cup” and “Do it in the Dark.”
