Surprisingly, determining the winner can be one of the trickiest (and most contentious) parts of running a dorm vs dorm sustainability competition. Good planning can help alleviate some of that stress. Here are a few ideas gleaned from Environmental Alliance’s experience:

At Duke University, the “Eco-Olympics” is a dorm vs. dorm sustainability competition that includes a suite of events promoting recycling, energy and water conservation, environmental education and other sustainable practices. Many schools run similar competitions under names such as the “Green Cup” and “Do it in the Dark.”
