James L. Buizer is Special Advisor to Arizona State University (ASU) President Michael M. Crow, and Executive Director of the Office of Sustainability Initiatives in the Office of the President. Since joining ASU in 2003, Buizer has led the design and formation of the University-wide Global Institute for Sustainability (GIOS.) Core components of GIOS are the School of Sustainability, launched fall 2006 as the world's first degree-granting unit dedicated to sustainability, and the Sustainability Partnership Enterprise, designed to bridge the gap between production of research-based knowledge and its use by practitioners for community planning, resource management, and policy formulation.
Jim serves on numerous boards, committees and councils throughout the University as well as outside the University, nationally and internationally. In his personal capacity, Jim serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). Prior to ASU, he served as Director of the Climate and Societal Interactions Program at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Washington, D.C. He received his degrees in Oceanography, Marine Resource Economics, and Science Policy from the University of Washington, Seattle, Washington

Anthony D. Cortese, Sc.D. is President of Second Nature, a nonprofit organization with a mission to catalyze a worldwide effort to make healthy, just, and environmentally sustainable action a foundation of all learning and practice in higher education. He is the Co-Coordinator of the Higher Education Associations' Sustainability Consortium. Dr. Cortese is also a co-founder of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. He is also the project manager for the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment initiative of AASHE and ecoAmerica.
Dr. Cortese was formerly the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. He was the first dean of environmental programs at Tufts University and spearheaded the award-winning Tufts Environmental Institute in 1989 and the internationally acclaimed Talloires Declaration of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future in 1990. Dr. Cortese was a founder and member of the board of directors of The Natural Step US for 10 years. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Cortese was a founder and member of the Board of Directors of the Natural Step, U.S. for 10 years and a founding member of the Environmental Business Council of England. He has served on numerous boards, and has also been a consultant to UNEP, a member of the EPA Science Advisory Board and the President's Council on Sustainable Development's Education Task Force. Among his many awards and recognition, he has received the Christopher Columbus Celebrate Discovery Legacy Award in 2002 and is also a founding member of the US Board of Councilors for the China - US Center for Sustainable Development. He is an author of numerous articles and papers and is a frequent consultant to higher education and business. Dr. Cortese has B.S. And M.S. Degrees from Tufts University in civil and environmental engineering and a Doctor of Science in Environmental Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Bonny C. Bentzin is Assistant Director of the Office of Sustainability Initiatives, in the Office of the President at Arizona State University. Since joining ASU in 2003, Bonny has played a central role in all aspects of design and implementation of the university-wide Global Institute of Sustainability (GIOS). Bonny supports the Executive Director of the Office of Sustainability Initiatives with strategic planning, including long & short term goal setting, and has taken a leadership role in establishing the Campus Sustainability Program at ASU. She is responsible for staff supervision and day-to-day management of office budgets and operations. Her recent activities have included promoting and supporting the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), serving on the Program Committee and chairing the Local Arrangements Committee of AASHE 2006.
Bonny received her BA in Environmental Studies from Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, MA in May 2002, with an emphasis on Environmental Problem Solving and Urban Planning. Her research interests are focused on improving methods for implementation of sustainability principles in corporate operations.

Judy Walton is the Executive Director of AASHE. She was a founding member and Executive Director of Education for Sustainability Western Network (EFS West), which was folded into AASHE in 2005. She has had a long-standing interest in sustainability, reflected in both her academic work (she played a key role in campus sustainability efforts at Humboldt State University (CA), 1999-2002), and her green building consultancy work in Washington state in the mid-1990s. She has delivered presentations to campuses and businesses, assisted campuses with strategic planning, and participated in or helped organize national webcasts on sustainability and higher education. Judy holds a Ph.D. in geography from Syracuse U. (1997), an M.A. in geography from San Diego State U. (1993), and a B.A. in political science from UC San Diego (1979).
